I am thinking about getting an antibark collar, the sort that spray citronella. However my dog whines not barks, so do they work for whining dogs too?

is there a collar for barking chihuahuas?

could anybody recommend a good collar that would help my chihuahua from constanly barking at notting,its driveing me mad? ive tryed the small anti shock bark collar for toy breeds but found it was to big and maybe there is one made out there just for chihuahuas?

As you no chihuahuas are from the group of toy breed dogs, they are very small and incur problems. Collapsing trachea is a problem for Toy Dogs of many breeds. The symptoms include coughing, shortness of breath, and exhaustion. Although it appears more often in dogs older than 5 years, an occasional puppy has it from birth. To understand the condition, think of the trachea as a straw made of cartilage that carries air from the neck to the chest. When the cartilage collapses, breathing becomes difficult, kind of like sipping soda through a flattened straw. This is why most breeders tell you to use a harness instead of a collar, of course if you are showing then a slip collar will be required.

If your chis are barking a lot you need to educate them that it is wrong, i have loads of chihuahuas and mine only bark if the door bell goes, which i like.

When you chi barks and they shouldnt be, simple use a rolled up newspaper, or a tub with money in or stones and shake it and say no in a strong sten voice, you dog will soon learn that the noise is associated with the bang when they bark. You could use a water spray and do the same or correction spray(can of compressed air) all of these are far safer that a collar.

This will take a little while to work, but it will work and is safer and cheaper. It wont take your dog long to no when you pick up the newspaper that you hit on the wall or the tub of stones it means they must not bark. Please try this before you buy these collars.

Are your chihuahuas young, if so they will pick this technique up quickly if they are a bit older it may take a little bit longer.

Your vet can treat the condition with medication, but if you smoke, your Chi’s prognosis may be poor. Secondhand smoke is a proven contributing factor to the problem . . . and smoke tends to settle low, where a Little Dog‘s nose is.
