We can very proudly say that we are the very proud
owners of Mayoss Cruisin with Mobox ShCM. 'Cooper' is our first ever Newfoundland and
delighted us here at Mobox when he attended his first ever Championship show at Birmingham
National, and after qualifying for Crufts on his first attempt he went on to win the Beta / Pro
Plan Pup of the Year class for the Working AV Minor Puppy Dogs under all rounder Mrs Liz
Stannard. He then went on to compete with all the winners for the day, and after being
declared Best Puppy for the day we were invited to return to the show to compete for the the
overall winner of the heat which would be decided prior to Best in Show on the final day of the
show.
We were delighted when Mrs Stannard chose Cooper to go
forward at the heats winner for the finals which would be held in January the following year,
especially given the quality of the daily winners.
As the ONLY Newfoundland from the North East to qualify
for this prestigious event were were understandably excited to go. We were contacted over
and over again for interviews with the local press, however, owing to the adverse weather at the
time we decided that we would rather not go and have to sit in a field in the middle of Winter
in the snow !!
January was upon us before we knew it and we were kindly
invited to stay at Grandma and Grandad Burrows' house prior to the show. As the venue for
the event was in the middle of London, who better to go with us than John, and being Coopers
breeder he was more than happy to come with us !!
The day went well and despite Michelle having a terrible
cold, we arrived at the venue with plenty of time to spare. We were all given name badges
and ushered into a small room with lots of crystal, ideal for a dog you can pick up but not for
a Newfie who thought it was great and just wanted to bark !
Eventually we were allowed into the hall, where there
was benches with big name plaques on for each of the dogs. The ring was huge and when we
arrived was being hovered methodically - I can only imagine the cleaners face when they saw the
mess afterwards !! We were all called into the ring together and asked to run around, it turned
into a bit of an assault course with one lap then up the stairs, across the stairs and back down
again.
The day wasnt ours, however, as the very proud owner of
the dog who qualified with the highest number of entries for the show - some 555 puppies
compared to some which had less than 100, I do believe that was a remarkable achievement.
Coope never put a foot wrong and we were complemented on him by several international show
judges which, of course, made the day worthwhile.
